What Is Garment Embroidery?
Garment embroidery uses coloured thread to stitch your logo, business name or design directly onto the garment rather than printing the design onto the surface.
Before a logo can be embroidered, it is converted into a specialist embroidery file. This tells our embroidery machines where each stitch should be placed, the order the design should be stitched and which thread colours should be used.
The result is a professional, textured and durable finish that is particularly suitable for workwear, uniforms and garments that will be worn and washed regularly.
Embroidery is commonly used for left-chest company logos, staff names, job titles, club badges, school logos, initials and larger designs.
Why Choose Embroidery?
Smart, Professional Appearance
Embroidery gives workwear and uniforms a premium, established appearance and helps staff look professional, consistent and easily recognisable.
Durable Finish
Because the design is stitched directly into the garment, embroidery is highly durable and is ideal for clothing that will be worn and washed regularly.
Ideal for Workwear and Uniforms
Embroidery works particularly well on polo shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, fleeces, softshell jackets, work jackets, shirts, aprons, caps and many other uniform garments.
Consistent Branding
Once your embroidery design has been set up and approved, the same embroidery file can normally be used for future orders. This makes it easy to keep your branding consistent when new staff join or replacement garments are required.
Professional Thread Colours
We use professional embroidery threads and select the closest suitable colours to reproduce your company or organisation's branding.
What Garments Can We Embroider?
Our Chesterfield embroidery service can be used on a wide range of garments and accessories.
Polo Shirts
One of the most popular choices for embroidered business workwear, hospitality uniforms, schools, clubs and organisations.
Hoodies and Sweatshirts
Ideal for workwear, team clothing, clubs, school leavers and casual staff uniforms.
Fleeces and Softshell Jackets
A practical option for outdoor workers, tradespeople and teams who require warm branded clothing.
Work Jackets and Bodywarmers
Durable embroidered outerwear for businesses and organisations requiring professional clothing throughout the year.
Shirts, Blouses and Aprons
A smart choice for offices, hospitality businesses, cafés, restaurants, salons and customer-facing teams.
Caps, Beanies and Selected Bags
Many accessories can also be embroidered, although available embroidery sizes and positions may be more limited.
Not every garment is suitable for embroidery. Lightweight fabrics, waterproof garments, heavily padded clothing, seams, pockets or unusually shaped products can sometimes restrict where embroidery can be positioned. We will always advise you before production.
Logo Digitising and Embroidery Setup
Before we embroider a new logo for the first time, it normally needs to be converted into a specialist stitch file. This process is known as embroidery digitising.
Digitising is much more than simply changing a file format. The design has to be planned so that stitch direction, density, underlay and stitch order produce a clean and stable result on the chosen garment.
A one-off setup charge may apply for a new logo. Once the embroidery file has been created and approved, we keep it for future repeat orders.
Basic text-only embroidery can often be set up without a separate digitising charge, depending on the wording and font required.
Thread colours can normally be changed on future orders without creating a new embroidery file, provided the design itself remains unchanged.
What Artwork Do I Need for Embroidery?
A clear, good-quality version of your logo helps us produce the best possible embroidered result.
Vector artwork such as EPS, PDF, AI or SVG is ideal, but it isn't always essential. We can often work from a high-resolution PNG, JPEG or another clear image file.
Low-resolution screenshots, photographs of garments and small images copied from websites may not contain enough information to accurately reproduce a logo.
If your artwork isn't suitable, we can often redraw or tidy it for an additional charge.
Embroidery also has different limitations to printing. Very small lettering, fine lines, complex gradients and tiny details may need to be simplified so the finished embroidery remains clear and professional.
We will discuss any recommended artwork changes with you before production.
Embroidery Testing and Artwork Approval
We provide a digital artwork mock-up showing the planned position and approximate size of your embroidery before production begins.
New embroidery logos are tested so that we can check stitching, thread colours, detail and the overall appearance of the design.
Where necessary, we adjust the embroidery file to improve small lettering, outlines, spacing or other fine details before completing your garments.
Production will normally begin after your artwork has been approved and full payment has been received.
Can I Supply My Own Garments?
Yes. We can embroider many suitable customer-supplied garments.
We will need to inspect or confirm the garment before accepting the order. Fabrics, linings, pockets, seams, waterproof coatings and padded areas can sometimes make embroidery unsuitable or restrict where a logo can be positioned.
Customer-supplied clothing is decorated at the customer's own risk because identical replacement garments may not always be available if an unexpected fault occurs during production.
Alternatively, we supply thousands of garments from established workwear and clothing brands and can recommend products that we know work particularly well with embroidery.

Embroidery Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a minimum embroidery order?
There is no minimum order for most embroidery jobs. We are happy to help whether you require one garment, a small staff uniform order or a larger quantity.
How much does embroidery cost?
Embroidery prices depend on the size and complexity of the design, stitch count, position, garment and quantity required. Send us your logo and order details and we'll provide an accurate quotation.
Do I pay a setup charge every time?
No. A digitising charge may apply when a new logo is first set up, but the approved embroidery file can normally be reused on future orders without another setup charge.
Can you embroider individual staff names?
Yes. We can add staff names, initials, job titles and other personalised text to suitable garments. Additional charges apply for individual personalisation.
Can I mix garment sizes and colours?
Yes. Most orders can contain a mixture of garment sizes, styles and colours, subject to product availability.
Can you match my company colours?
We select the closest suitable embroidery thread colours from our available range. As embroidery thread and colours displayed on a screen are different materials, an exact match cannot always be guaranteed.
Is embroidery better than printing?
Neither method is always better. Embroidery is particularly popular for professional left-chest logos and durable workwear, while DTF printing may be more suitable for large, detailed or full-colour designs. We can recommend the most suitable decoration method for your order.
How should embroidered garments be washed?
Always follow the washing instructions supplied with the garment. Washing clothing inside out, avoiding harsh bleaching products and not ironing directly over the embroidery can help protect both the garment and design.
Can I reorder the same embroidered logo later?
Yes. We keep approved embroidery files for future use, making it straightforward to order clothing for new staff or replace existing garments.
